TUSCAN-INDIA PROJECT: “TUSCANY IN INDIA – INDIANS IN TUSCANY”

Tuscany is not only Florence or Pisa, there is much more: art cities, shopping, mountain, golf, tradition & wine. A rich scenario of new opportunities to creating better itineraries for your Company. Tuscany offers you everything and it is the only Region in Italy which can give you the opportunity to be regularly informed about its events, appointments, meetings, etc. and to have a web-platform where interact with the Tuscan partners.

India is a new emerging market for Tuscany, but it is already possible to find links between the needs of the Indian Travelers and the tourist offer of Tuscany Region. Indians will be the quality travelers in the next 10 to 15 years and Tuscany wants to have a dedicated part in the Bharat's heart. The interest in the Indian market can be also seen in the wish of creating new offers thought for Indians as in many restaurants around Tuscany, where you can find typical Italian food cooked with an Indian touch and named with Indian words.

For those reasons, Toscana Promozione, the Economic Promotion Agency of Tuscany, decided to focus its attention on the Indian market, launching a project thought and dedicated only to India and to its Tour Operators and Travel Agents. The aim of the project is to increase the awareness of Tuscany in India through the addition of the Tuscan offer in the catalogues of the Travel Agencies and Tour Operators to become a destination brand: Tuscany. Toscana Promozione wish to reach a 20% growth in the next year of Indian travelers visiting Tuscany.

The project was created by Toscana Promozione, with the support of Fondazione Campus Studi del Mediterraneo and launched at the end of 2009. The project has seen the following steps:

•        Scouting Trip in India during November 2009 and January 2010 for better discovering the Indian tourist market;

•        Training Course during March 2010 about the Destination Tuscany, to give the Front Office Managers of many important Tour Operators in Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore the opportunity to know better what there is in Tuscany and what can be offered to the Indian travelers.

•       Training Course during September 2010 about the Indian Market, organized in various Local Tourist Boards of Tuscany, to let the Tuscan Companies better understand what the Indian travelers need, what could be interesting to promote the destination and who are the key players in India for the promotion of a Destination.

•       3 Educational Tours organized in Tuscany: for a TV Programme (Hum Safar), a group of important journalists and the Association ITOCI – Indian Tour Operator Council for Italy.

This kind of philosophy in the destination management and promotion is unique in Italy, at least for the Indian Market: training the Indian T.O. and the Tuscan Companies to show both of them the opportunities of a good cooperation.
